The following message is a SCAM: "Your credit union debit card has a pending alert. Call now, toll-free 1-940-XXX-XXXX, and follow the instructions to resolve this alert." If you receive a text or e-mail stating this message, do NOT call the number or give out any of your information.
This is NOT a text or email from River Works Credit Union; this is a phishing scam. Phishing is an electronic way of attempting to acquire sensitive information by pretending to be a trustworthy source. This Credit Union will never ask our members to provide confidential account information via text or e-mail.
ROBO CALLS
River Works Credit Union has been made aware that several customers have received “robo-calls” indicating that their account at banks and/or credit unions have been compromised and asks the customer to enter their debit card number. There may also be a variation of this phone call that asks the customer to enter their debit card number in order to activate it. These calls are an automated phone calls.
Robocall is a term for an automated phone call that uses both a computerized auto dialer and a computer-delivered pre-recorded message. The implication is that a "robocall" resembles a telephone call from a robot. Robocalls are often associated with political and telemarketing phone campaigns, but can also be used for public-service or emergency announcements. In this case they are using the “robocalls” with the intent to defraud the customer.
We are advising our customers that this request is a scam and should not provide their account/debit card information. Please advise River Works Credit Union, member service department at 781-599-0096 Option #7 if you receive any of these robo calls…
NOTICE OF CHANGES IN TEMPORARY NCUA INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR TRANSACTION ACCOUNTS
All funds in a "noninterest-bearing transaction account" are insured in full by the National Credit Union Administration through December 31, 2012. This temporary unlimited coverage is in addition to, and separate from, the coverage of at least $250,000 available to members under the NCUA's general share insurance rules.
